Carrot Idly

Idly is the tiffin made mostly through out south India. But each part of south India make this idly in a different way. We make Idly with udad dal and idly rava, few make this with rice and udad dal.
The idly i made today is with udad dal and idly rava. This is the regular idly which we make. I wanted to try this in a different way adding carrot and chana dal. And idly tasted good with chutney. Here goes the recipe........

We need:

Udad dal 1 cup
Idly rava 2 cups
Carrot grated 1 cup
Mustard seeds 1/4 sp
Jeera 1/4 sp
red chilli 2
Green chillies 3
Coconut powder 1/ 2 sps
Dhaliya 1 cup
Oil 2 sps
Curry leaves 4

Method:

Soak udad dal over night and grind it to smooth paste.
Soak idly rava for and hour and drain water. Add it to dal paste and ferment it over night.
Add salt and grated carrot to it before making idly.
Now take idly plates and grease them with oil before adding idly batter to it.
Now steam the idly's in cooker.
While the idly is cooking prepare chutney to serve with idly.
Add green chilli, salt, coconut to dhaliya and make a smooth paste.
In a pan heat 2 sps oil and add mustard seeds, jeera, red chilli, udad dal and curry leaves to make tempering for the chutney.
Add this to chutney and serve hot idly with chutney.
Carrot idly tasted different from regular idly, good idea to feed kids who doesnot like carrot.
