Beans Curry

French beans or string beans or green beans are eaten around the world and are available fresh, frozen or canned in the market. They are typically steamed, boiled or stir fried before consuming. They are also added to soups, salads or casseroles along with other vegetables. Me being a south Indians, my family prefers to have them as stir fried with some homemade masala and dry coconut powder. For a change I have tried this gravy curry with beans which is my moms recipe. The curry turned out so well with the masala paste made with sesame, coriander seeds and nuts. I served the curry with roti, it tastes well with steamed rice or any pulao too.

This recipe goes to week 2 day 2 of Blogging Marathon 114 under the theme " Bring on the curry".

Ingredients:

French Beans / String beans chopped 2 cups
Cumin seeds 1 tsp
Chopped onion 1/2 cup
Turmeric powder 1/2 tsp
Chili powder 1 tsp
Garam masala 1/2 tsp
Ginger garlic paste 1 tsp
Curry leaves 4
Salt to taste
Oil 2 tbsp
Chopped cilantro 1/2 cup

Ingredients for ground paste

Almonds 10
Cashew nuts 10
Sesame seeds 2 tbsp
Coriander seeds 1 tbsp

Preparation:

Dry roast all the ingredients separately mentioned under ground paste.
Mix every together, add water and grind it to course paste.
In a flat pan or any sauce pan heat oil, add curry leaves and cumin seeds.
Add chopped onions and saute till they turn light brown.
Now add ginger garlic paste and cook till raw smell disappears.
Add chopped beans, turmeric powder, chili powder and salt to taste.
Mix and cook till beans are half done.
Now add the ground paste and 2 cups water.
Also add garam masala and cover to cook for 10 minutes on medium flame.
Make sure to mix the curry in between as the paste tends to stick to the bottom.
Cook until beans are nice and tender.
Add water and cook for another 2 minutes if you  want the gravy to be thin.
Serve with rice or roti.
