Majjiga Charu / Buttermilk Rasam

We need:


Buttermilk 3cups
Haldi 1/4 sp
Chili powder 1/2 sp
Salt to taste
Chopped onion 2 sps
Chopped green chili 1/2 sp
Chopped cilantro 1sp
Chopped ginger 1/2 sp
Oil 2 sps
Mustard seeds 1/4 sp
Cumin seeds 1/4 sp
Udad dal 1/2 sp
Curry leaves 2
Red chili 1
Fenufreek seeds 5



Method:


Add salt, chili powder and haldi to buttermilk and mix well.
In a flat pan heat oil and add chopped onion, green chili, curry leaves and ginger.
Saute till golden brown and add mustard, cumin, red chili, udad dal, fenugreek seeds.
Fry for a minute and add chopped cilantro. saute for few seconds and add this to the buttermilk.
That's it rasam or majjiga charu is ready to serve.
Serve with rice or kichidi.


Optional:
If u like u can even add any kind of veggies to this Charu like bottle guard, carrot, drumsticks etc...

I've always wanted to ask someone what buttermilk rasam was...hav only heard of it. this seems to be an interesting variation of what we call 'mor-kuzhambu' in tamil. Lovely!
