Paneer Butter Masala

Paneer or Indian cottage cheese is a fresh acid set cheese common in Indian subcontinent made from cow or buffalo milk. Paneer is rich in protein, iron and calcium. There are a lot of recipes with paneer be it  a breakfast dish, curry, appetizer or a rice dish. It can be used in many dishes and many ways. 

This week I will preparing 3 dishes with paneer, to begin with I will be posting a very famous and kids favorite Paneer Butter masala. It is a rich, creamy and melt in mouth dish which goes very well with roti, naan or chapati. This recipe goes to week 3 day 1 of blogging marathon under the theme  "Pick one ingredient and do 3". Lets gets started with the list of ingredients and procedure. 





Ingredients:


Paneer 1 cup cubed
Onion 1 medium
Tomato 1 small
Cashew nuts 8
Ginger 1/2 inch 
Garlic 4 cloves
Kasturi methi 1/2 tsp
Salt to taste
Chili powder 1/4 tsp
Garam masala 1/2 tsp
Sugar 1/2 tsp
Heavy cream 1/2 cup
Butter 1 tbsp
Oil 1 tbsp


Preparation:


In a small pan add 1/4 tsp oil, roughly chopped onions, tomato, cashew nuts, ginger and garlic.
Cook till they are nice and soft.
Let it cool down completely  to make a smooth paste.
In a non stick pan add rest of the oil and butter.
Add kasturi methi and saute for few seconds.
Now add the ground paste and cook till the oil separates. 
Now add garam masala, salt, chili powder and sugar.
Mix well and add heavy cream along with 1/4 cup water.
Add some more butter at this time if you want it.
Cook for a minute and then add paneer cubes.
Mix gently and cook on low flame till oil separates.
Adjust salt, garnish with kasturi methi and little cream.
Serve hot with roti, naan or chapati.
