Onion Raita

Raita is a condiment in South Asian Cuisine made with curd / dahi / yogurt mixed with raw or cooked veggies and seasoned with roasted cumin, pepper , chaat masala, salt and sometimes herbs too. There are many varieties of raita, today I will be sharing a very simple yet delicious raita which goes very well with biryani, pulao or paratha too.

Onion Raita goes to week 2 day 1 of Blogging Marathon 112 under the theme " Lets make some raithas".

Ingredients:

Curd 1 cup
Thinly Sliced onions 1/4 cup
Green chili 1 chopped
Chopped cilantro 1 tsp
Salt to taste
Roasted Cumin powder 1/4 tsp

Preparation:

In a bowl beat the curd till nice and smooth.
Add sliced onions, chopped chili, cilantro, cumin powder and salt to taste.
Mix everything well and refrigerate for 15 minutes or until ready to serve.

This is One of the basic staple recipes, you can try adding a spoon of green chutney to this for a different take. That also pairs really well with Pulaos and other Rice dishes.

One of the basic raitas but I never make it at home. I just get lazy and serve beaten yogurt and raw onion separately :)
