Idly Dhokla

Idly Dhokla is a instant steamed snack or breakfast dish made with chick pea flour. Regular Dhokla

 is made in a flat plate, for idly dhokla  batter is prepared and cooked in a idly cooker / idly molds.

 This light weight and airy texture dish is perfect for breakfast, evening snack or can be served in

 any  party and  weddings as well. 

This recipe goes to Week 4 Day 3 of Blogging Marathon 130 under the theme " Kids Delight-

 Healthy breakfast recipes."

  




 Ingredients:


Besan / Gram Flour 2 cups

Sooji / Semolina 2.5 tbsp

Curd 3/4 cup

Ginger and green chili paste 1 tbsp

Salt to taste

Turmeric powder 3/4 tsp

Sugar 1 tsp

Hing / Asafetida 1/4 tsp

 Oil 2 tbsp

Eno fruit salt 1/2 tsp

Water required to make a batter



Ingredients for tempering:


Mustard seeds 1 tsp

Sesame seeds 1 tsp

Slit green chili 6

Hing / asafetida 1/4 tsp

Sugar 1/2 tsp

Salt 1/4 tsp

Water 1/4 cup 

Chopped coriander leaves

Grated fresh coconut ( optional )


Preparation:


In a mixing bowl add gram flour, sooji, ginger chili paste, sugar, salt, oil, turmeric powder, hing and

 curd .

Mix everything well, add enough water to make a smooth batter, like idly batter not too thin.

Now add eno fruit salt and mix well.

Heat a steamer or idly cooker, add water. 

Grease the idly plates and add some dhokla batter in all the moulds.

Steam cook for 10-12 minutes.

Set aside for  few minutes before opening the cooker.

Remove and place them on a serving plate.




Preparation for tempering and Serving:


Heat oil in a small pan add all the tempering  ingredients as mentioned above.

Finally add 1/4 cup water and boil for few seconds.

Transfer this tempering on to the cooked idly dhokla.

Garnish with chopped cilantro and grated fresh  coconut.

Serve.

We are great fans of steamed snacks and this idli dhokla sounds very delicious. Very well made , spongy and soft !
